Adele, etc.

February 3, 2009

This past Friday, Adele came to Los Angeles to do a show at the Wiltern.  I first saw Adele on Saturday Night Live, as most people probably did, because that was the one week people watched SNL to see Tina Fey do Sarah Palin.

I pretty much went out and got her CD the next day and have been listening to it on heavy rotation ever since.  Her live show was fantastic.  Some bands, especially bands you really like, aren’t great live.  You’ll be jumping up and down and shouting how awesome it is to your friends, but in the back of your head you’re thinking, “you know, this kind of sucks.”  But at this concert I was blown away. Lady has got a set of pipes. She played everything off of her album 19, and a song or two that weren’t on it. She also did a cover of “Many Shades of Black” by The Raconteurs, which is another favorite song of mine. I think she had a bit of the stage fright, because she talked so fast in between songs that I had no idea what she was saying. I think about the only thing I caught was “this is so surreal.”

The Wiltern itself is a fairly old theater near downtown Los Angeles. We luckily had assigned seats on the second level, which I thought was ideal, cause the suckers on the first level had to stand and elbow each other. The ceiling had some great art deco designs. The security detail wasn’t even being nazis about chewing gum this time.  My only complaint is that the seat protruding springs cushions probably haven’t been replaced since the place opened.

So in conclusion- buy yourself this album, because I personally guarantee you won’t regret it.  (Amazon)

Odds & Ends:

For the superbowl I baked cookies, and I guess I went a little overboard:003005

I thought for sure that it was omen that the Cardinals cookies came out so much better, but I guess my baking has yet to take on divination properties. In time.

This Spinach and Articoke Dip recipe is the shit.
